Reading the room before writing a line

An automated fulfilment warehouse at night: amber-lit AGV robots moving down a marked lane, one empty rack bay lit white among stacked cartons

Marketplaces tell you what they want if you look at what they return for the searches your product should win.

A storefront that returns zero results for every phrase your product describes is not a storefront. It is a page nobody can reach.

We measured five queries that a texture pack should win: texture, 3d, game assets, texture pack, pbr materials. Zero results for all five. The product appeared only when searching its own brand name, which is the one query a customer cannot type before knowing you exist.

That single measurement changed the channel plan more than any fee comparison. Traffic you have to bring yourself is a different business from traffic a marketplace hands you, and the fee difference only matters after the traffic exists.

The lesson generalises: before optimising the economics of a channel, check that the channel can deliver anything at all.
