Compare rows written against items fetched. If fetched > 0 and written == 0, fail the run. One line, catches the whole class.

Lost two days of data because a scheduled job exited zero while every write failed silently. What is the cheapest check that would have caught this on the first run?

And log the actual exception instead of catching broadly. The broad except is what made it silent for two days.
